Montgomery Sentinel

Montgomery AL; With the season coming to a close, Scouting Director José Sierra of the Montgomery Mountain Cats took a quick trip to Venenzuala to have a look around. It has been reported that 41 year old scout located a promising middle reliever in Maximo Cucalon, a very intellegent 16 year old that has been starting in his home of Maracaibo.
The Sentinel spoke with the Montgomery scout to get an assessment of the young player. "Basically, Cucalon is a very young player that will need a lot of work to make it on the Montgomery roster but we feel that with his intellegence, a lot could happen in the next few years. Right now the young hurler throws five pitches with his changeup being his best pitch. Unfortunately, at this point he doesn't throw any of them to the standard we expect, but again his high intellegence should make up for any physical shortcomings."
We asked José Sierra to take a peek at his notes but he informed us that Cucalon was not yet signed so he would not share any additional information. However, he did let us know that the player has been offered a minor league deal with the club and was expected to sign. The Sentinel will keep you posted of any further updates.
